I'm not a chair
experimental development of cellulose-based materials
I may look like a chair, but I'm not. I'm an art & design object, and my form does not follow my function. I aim to open different directions of perception of an object and I can represent myself as a functional art object or an object that does not try to follow the creative principles of "good design". by breaking the standards of understanding a traditional design, I seek to question my definition and expand the boundaries of design discipline itself
I am created using only cellulosic materials and a cord set. I have three different layers which show the different possibilities of using the same cellulose material. the first layer is my main structure, and it's made of natural pine tree branches found in Lithuanian forests. my second layer is a mass of recycled cellulose fiber that connects the individual branches into one object and covers my entire construction. this layer creates my uniquely roughened surface and allows me to be even more deviation from aesthetic, formal, and functional definitions and resists the logic of universality, functionality, and overall beauty dictated by the large-scale furniture industry. my third layer is made of cellulose-based bioplastic and is like a skin that combines all materials together, makes me waterproof and protects me against the possible damage
I am biodegradable, so I can naturally decompose at specific environmental conditions, without creating any additional damage to the natural environment or humans
